Welcome

The Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarships were first awarded in 1993, named in memory of Mrs. Lucinda L. Jasper, who taught in parochial schools for over thirty years and was a strong advocate of a Catholic education.  The scholarships are awarded annually to graduates of Catholic grade schools in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. who plan to attend a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C.  To apply one must write an essay on an African-American who has influenced them to continue on to higher education, and submit an application form, a recommendation by a teacher and verified academic record from the school.

All applicants must be in a Catholic grade school in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. and attending a Catholic High School in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. in the fall of the year.

The pandemic health crisis has caused an economic crisis within our children’s homes that has had great impact on whether a child will be able to attend a school of his or her choice. It is predicted that the cost of many educational institutions will increase. This will add to the financial burdens of many parents.  To ensure that children will be able to attend the school of their choice, the Board of Directors and the Committee of The Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarship Fund, Inc. decided to increase the amount of the scholarships awarded for first place from $1750.00 to $3,000.00, and for second place from $1250.00 to $2000.00.

We are truly grateful to our many contributors who have helped make this possible for the children.
