Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarship Fund

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarship Fund (LLJSF) Competition.  Named after a Washington D.C. area teacher and civil rights activist, the scholarship seeks to support the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic elementary school graduates as they continue their Catholic school education into an Archdiocese of Washington high school.  Two scholarships are awarded each year: first place $1,750.00 and second place $1,250.00.

The application period will begin January 15, 2019.

A complete application consists of (1) an essay (1500 – 2500 words), (2) a teacher recommendation, (3) a school report, and (4) an application form. The teacher recommendation must be submitted by a teacher familiar with the student’s capabilities; the school report must be completed by the student’s current principal. Please note that essays less than 1500 words will render the application packet incomplete and incomplete applications will be disqualified.

Winners are announced each year during the first week of May.  They will be notified by mail and/or email.  Only WINNERS will be notified.

The scholarship funds will be forwarded directly to the winning students’ Archdiocese of Washington D. C. Catholic high school, no later than November 1, 2019.  These funds are applied only to the freshman high school tuition for the academic year following the winners’ eighth grade graduation.

Again, thank you for your participation and our best wishes to you during this competition.

Please refer to the Essay Requirements page on this website for more information about what must be included in an applicant’s essay as well as some tips to consider before beginning the application process.

Committee and/or Board members upon request from the school will hold sessions with students, teachers, administrators and even parents on the process of applying, requirements and tips for the essay, and guidance on the recommendations and school reports.
